Company Overview

Northpower values its customers and takes pride in providing a safe, reliable, hassle free service. At Northpower we listen to our customers and work in partnership with them to find commercially viable solutions to electrical and telecommunication design, construction and maintenance requirements.

Established in 1920, Northpower has expanded from a Northland-owned and operated electricity distribution network to become one of the largest multi-utility contractors in New Zealand, with a reputation for excellence and innovation.

The company is structured in two main divisions, Northpower Network and Northpower Contracting. Both divisions are supported by shared corporate services including Human Resources, Finance, Marketing, Process Solutions and Logistics. The company has a strong executive management team overseeing all aspects of the business.

The Northpower Network is made up of over 52,000 connected consumers from Topuni in the south to Bland Bay in the north with an asset replacement value of $337M. Northpower Network also owns a Next Generation Fibre Optic Network in Whangarei, designed and constructed in 2008 by the company’s own engineers and technicians.

Northpower Contracting (revenue $150M p.a) offers a completely integrated contracting service for design, construction and maintenance of fibre optic, electrical distribution and transmission networks. The contracting division has staff based at locations throughout the North Island and also owns a subsidiary, West Coast Energy, based in Perth, Australia.

As an industry leader, Northpower is a member of the newly-formed New Zealand Regional Fibre Group (NZRFG), consisting of 18 lines and fibre companies from around the country.

Northpower provides a safe working environment for its employees and invests considerably into safety and training each year. The company’s unique Trade Coach Programme has been effective in lifting work quality and safety standards over the years. Trade Coaches are industry based professionals and experts in their fields who work with staff and supervisors on the job and in the classroom.
